Guacamole is an avocado-based dip, sauce or spread with fresh chopped tomatoes, onion and coriander which was first developed in Mexico.

Serves: 4
Cooking Time: 10 to 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 3 large avocados, very ripe but not mushy
  • 1 large clove of garlic, minced
  • 1 green chilli or Jalapeño Pepper, chopped (optional)
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 large tomato, finely chopped
  • a handful of coriander, finely chopped
  • salt to taste
  • juice of one lemon
  • pinch of crushed black pepper

Procedure

  • Cut the avocados in two halves and remove the seed.
  • Using a spoon, scoop out the entire avocado flesh in a bowl.
  • Use a fork to mash the avocados until a smooth but chunky consistency is achieved.
  • Add chopped onion, tomatoes, garlic, green chillies or jalapeño pepper to the bowl.
  • Add lemon juice, salt to taste and crushed black pepper along with chopped coriander.
  • Mix everything well.

Guacamole is ready to be served. Enjoy it as a salad or with tortilla chips or bread or wrap.

Tips

  • Use well-ripened Avocados as they have a buttery and creamy pulp.
  • Guacamole should be served immediately otherwise the avocados start turning brown. If you want to store it, then transfer it to an airtight container immediately and store it in the fridge.
